small blue round cell tumour

A generic term for tumours (almost invariably malignant) characterised by sheets of relatively homogenous small cells with scant cytoplasm and prominent (“blue”) nuclei, which cannot be reliably differentiated by light microscopy and require ancillary studies—in particular, immunohistochemistry—to identify cell lineage and guide therapy.
