Praskovia Vishniakova

Born Oct. 13 (25), 1887, in the stanitsa (large cossack village) of Ekaterinovskaia, in present-day Shcherbinovskaia Raion, Krasnodar Krai; died Jan. 10, 1967, in Moscow. Active in the revolutionary movement in Russia. Member of the Communist Party from 1903. Born into a peasant family.

Vishniakova started working at the age of 13 at a glass works and then in a macaroni factory and at a cannery. She participated in the Revolution of 1905-07 in the Northern Caucasus. In 1907 she was a typesetter in an underground printing shop. During 1912-15 she collected money for the newspaper Pravda and transported clandestine literature. She was repeatedly subjected to persecution. After the February Revolution she returned from exile in Yakutia to the Kuban’ area. From 1917 to 1922, Vishniakova was a member of the Ekaterinodar (Krasnodar) and Kuban’ Party committees. She was an active participant in the October Revolution and the Civil War in the Northern Caucasus. From 1922 to 1928 she worked in the Don Oblast and Krai Control Com-missions of the ACP (Bolshevik); in 1928 she started work in the central control commission of the ACP (Bolshevik). In 1932 she became a member of the presidium of the central committee of the woodworking industry trade union. She was on pension beginning in 1935 but worked in the People’s Commissariat of Heavy Industry until 1939. She was a delegate to the Thirteenth to Sixteenth Party Congresses and was elected a member of the central control commission of the ACP (Bolshevik) at the Thirteenth to Fifteenth Congresses. She was awarded the Order of Lenin and the Order of the Red Banner.
