[′päsh·ən ‚sir·ēz] (spectroscopy) A series of lines in the infrared spectrum of atomic hydrogen whose wave numbers are given by RH [(1/9) - (1/ n 2)], where RH is the Rydberg constant for hydrogen, and n is any integer greater than 3.
