Pasdeloup, Jules Étienne

Born Sept. 15, 1819, in Paris; died Aug. 13, 1887, in Fontainebleau. French orchestral conductor.

Pasdeloup studied at the Paris Conservatory. In 1851 he founded the Société des Jeunes Artistes du Conservatoire, a symphony orchestra. Later, in 1861, he inaugurated his Concerts Populaires de Musique Classique, which he conducted until 1884 and again during the 1886–87 season. These concerts, renamed the Concerts Pasdeloup, were revived in 1920 by the conductor Rhené-Baton. Pasdeloup popularized classical music as well as the compositions of his contemporaries.
