the administrative center of Semikara-korsk Raion, Rostov Oblast, RSFSR. The city has a wharf on the left bank of the Don River, located 26 km south of the Ust’-Donetsk railroad station, the terminus of a branch line of the Likhaia-Rostov-on-Don line. Population, 18,300 (1975). Semi-karakorsk has a cannery, a cheese plant, a poultry-packing combine, and a food-processing combine. Building materials are produced in the city. There are sovkhozes for growing fruits and vegetables and fattening livestock and a nursery sovkhoz for fruit trees. There is fish raising in the area. Founded in 1672, Semikarakorsk became a city in 1972.
