Passamaquoddy BayPassamaquoddy Bay(păsəməkwŏd`ē), inlet of the Bay of Fundy, between Maine and New Brunswick, at the mouth of the St. Croix River. Most of it (including Campobello island) is within Canada's border. New Brunswick towns in the vicinity are St. Andrews and St. George; Maine towns are Eastport and Lubec (at the bay's entrance). A large hydroelectric project (frequently called the Quoddy project), which planned to make use of the bay's great tidal range and began (1935) in the U.S. sector with funds from the Public Works Administration, was suspended after Congress refused funds in 1936.Passamaquoddy Bay |
