Rotha, Paul
Rotha, Paul
Born June 3, 1907, in London. British director and producer of documentary films.
With John Grierson, Rotha helped found the English school of documentary film-making of the 1930’s and 1940’s. His series consisting of the films World of Plenty (1943), Land of Promise (1945), and The World Is Rich (1948) was devoted to current problems of bourgeois society. Marked by a progressive treatment of social problems, the series made use of filmed interviews, newsreel clips, and materials from film archives. Rotha’s documentary Life of Adolf Hitler (1962) is well known.
