She was known under the name of Sammu-ramat in Assyria and was first mentioned in classical literature as Semiramis in a work by the Greek writer Ctesias (fifth-early fourth century B.C). Semiramis is thought to have commissioned the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Known as Shamiram in Armenian literature, Semiramis is mentioned in a work of the Armenian historian Movses Khorenatsi (fifth-early sixth century A.D).
