Tetovo

 

a city in Yugoslavia, in the Socialist Republic of Macedonia. Located at the southern foot of the Šar Planina. Linked by rail with the cities of Skopje and Ohrid. Population, 40,000 (1974). Tetovo is the center of the agricultural region of the lower Polog valley. Industry is represented by a wool-weaving combine, a tannery, a tobacco factory, and a fruit and vegetable cannery. Chromites are mined near Tetovo, and there is production of ferrochromium. The city also has a chemical plant.
