Precision of Chemical Analysis

Precision of Chemical Analysis

a characteristic of the results of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis reflecting the effect of random errors on the method of determination. The precision of chemical analysis depends on the analytical method selected, as well as on certain other techniques, such as that for weighing. In laboratory practice, precision is most frequently and simply expressed by the average value of a number of individual determinations and by the deviations of the individual results from this average. In chemical analysis, the number of independent determinations usually varies from two to five, while the precision of analytical methods ranges from 0.005 to 0.1 percent.
