Successive Concentrations

Successive Concentrations

a type of fire by ground artillery used for fire support of attacking troops by means of concentrated fire.

Successive concentrations of fire are carried out by one or two battalions according to predetermined neutralization sectors. The fire strike begins when the advancing units are 800–1,000 m from the fire sector and stops when they reach the line beyond which the shelling would endanger them. This type of fire was used extensively by Soviet artillery in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–45.
