Dzhamgerchinov, Begimaly Dzhamgerchinovich

 

Born Oct. 2 (15), 1914, in the village of Kiuntu, the present-day S. M. Kirov Sovkhoz, Kirghiz SSR. Soviet historian; party and public figure.

Dzhamgerchinov has been a member of the Academy of Sciences of the Kirghiz SSR since 1954 and of the Communist Party since 1941. He became vice-president of the Kirghiz Academy of Sciences in 1965. From 1951 to 1954 he was rector of Kirghiz State University. From 1952 to 1956 he was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kirghizia. The principal theme of his works is 19thand 20th-century Kirghiz history. His works include Essays on the Political History of Kirghizia in the 19th Century (1966), History of KirghiziaFrom Ancient Times to the Twenty-third Congress of the CPSU (1967, jointly with V. P. Sherstobitov and A. K. Kanimetov), and The Marxist-Leninist Solution of the Nationality Question (1969). He received the State Prize of the Kirghiz SSR in 1970.
