(Problems of the History of the CPSU), a scholarly journal, organ of the Institute of Marxism-Leninism (IML) of the Central Committee of the CPSU. It has been published in Moscow since July 1957; until January 1963 it was published six times a year; after that it became a monthly. The journal’s task is to elucidate the ideological and theoretical heritage of K. Marx, F. Engels, and V. I. Lenin, current problems of the history of the CPSU, questions of building up the Party, the activity of the CPSU in directing socialist and communist construction, and the history of the international communist movement. The journal publishes materials designed to help persons studying the history of the CPSU and materials on the study of sources and the historiography of the Party. The journal fights against those who falsify CPSU history. It devotes much space to recollections about the life and work of V. I. Lenin and his companions-in-arms and to the major events in CPSU history. The journal reviews literature on Party history and analyzes the state of research of the IML of the Central Committee of the CPSU, of its branches, and of the CPSU history subdepartments at higher educational institutions. It has a circulation of about 70,000 copies (1971).
