Voronia

Voron’ia

 

a river on the Kola Peninsula, Murmansk Oblast, RSFSR. Length, 155 km; basin area, 9,940 sq km. Originates at Lovozero Lake, falls into Voron’ia Inlet of the Barents Sea. In its upper reaches it flows through a broad valley and in the lowlands, in a deep, narrow ravine with numerous rapids and waterfalls. (The largest is the Second Padun Falls with a drop of 26.7 m.) Floods are abated by the regulatory influence of lakes on the Voron’ia and its branches. Mean annual discharge of water is 114 cu m per sec (Golitsyno). On the river is the Serebrianka Hydroelectric Power Station.
