Teutoni

(also Teutons or Teutones), Germanic tribes. In the late second century B.C., the Teutoni moved south from Jutland and, after joining with the Cimbri, invaded Gaul. Later, together with the Cimbri and other tribes, the Teutoni set out for northern Italy. In 102 B.C. they were routed by the troops of the Roman commander Gaius Marius at Aquae Sextiae, after which time references to the Teutoni as tribes ceased to appear. The word is sometimes still used as a term for Germans in general.
