In a cotton roving frame, for example, the sliver is supplied from sliver cans, passes around a feed roller, and is fed to the drafting device. It then passes through an eyelet, a hollow leg, and the pressure finger of the flyer, which is mounted atop the spindle, and is then wound onto a bobbin in the form of roving. Spindles may have rotation speeds up to 800 rpm. In the French system of spinning wool, the roving is formed by means of rubbing sleeves.
