takeoff safety speed

takeoff safety speed (V2)

A referenced air speed obtained after takeoff at which the required one-engine-in-operative climb performance can be achieved. This speed is used in the determination of takeoff performance. It is a legal requirement for some commercial and most jet operations that at least this speed should be attained on a one-power-unit inoperative performance by the time the aircraft has reached the screen height (35 ft). Takeoff safety speed is a function of the weight and the flap setting. See also safety speed.
