Guldin, Paul

Born June 12, 1577, in St. Gallen; died Nov. 3, 1643, in Graz. Swiss mathematician.

Guldin wrote a work on centers of gravity of bodies; this work also discusses problems of surface areas and volumes of bodies. He is also credited with a number of theories on determining volumes and surface areas of bodies of revolution. In many cases, Guldin arrived at results that had been achieved earlier by J. Kepler and B. Cavalieri.
