Rozanov, Ivan Nikanorovich
Born Aug. 9 (21), 1874, in Morshansk, now in Tambov Oblast; died Nov. 22, 1959, in Moscow. Soviet literary scholar and specialist in book science. Brother of M. N. Rozanov.
Rozanov graduated from the department of history and philology at Moscow University in 1899. He became a professor at Moscow State University in 1918. Between 1919 and 1941 he headed the department of book history at the Historical Museum in Moscow, and from 1945 to 1953 he worked at the Gorky Institute of World Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.
Beginning in 1900, Rozanov published about 300 works, including Russian Lyric Poetry (1914), Songs by Russian Poets (1936), and Nineteenth-Century Russian Songs (1944). He also collected a unique library of Russian poetry, which was donated after his death to the Pushkin Museum in Moscow. Rozanov was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and several medals.
