Rozental’, Mark Moiseevich

 

Born Feb. 6(19), 1906, in the village of Ust’e, Podol’sk Province, in what is now Vinnitsa Oblast; died Feb. 2, 1975, in Moscow. Soviet philosopher. Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1966); professor (1940); doctor of philosophy (1946). Member of the CPSU from 1925.

In 1933, Rozental’ graduated from the Institute of the Red Professors and began his career in scientific research and teaching. From 1933 to 1941 he was deputy managing editor of the journal Literaturnyi kritik (Literary Critic). From 1946 to 1975 he worked for the Academy of Social Sciences Attached to the CPSU Central Committee. From 1953 to 1958 he was deputy editor in chief of the journal Voprosy filosofii (Problems of Philosophy). His chief works are on dialectical materialism, aesthetics, and the history of philosophy.

Rozental’ was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and various medals.
