Vestfonna

 

the northwest part of the glacial cover of the island of Svalbard, in the Spitsbergen Archipelago. Vestfonna belongs to Norway. Area, 2,800 sq km, highest elevation, 637 m. The ice in the center of the glacial cover is 120m thick, and the annual accumulation of snow is more than 1,000 mm. To the south, the southwest, and the northwest (in places) the glaciers reach the sea.
