Lazimir, Pavel Evgen’evich

Born Jan. 21, 1891; died May 20, 1920. Soviet military figure; active participant in the Great October Revolution. Member of the Communist Party from 1918; a left Socialist Revolutionary until the October Revolution. Son of a soldier who had reenlisted in the army.

Lazimir was a medical assistant. He worked in the Petrograd Military Infirmary and conducted revolutionary propaganda among the soldiers. After the February Revolution of 1917 he was a member of the Petrograd soviet and its executive committee and chairman of the soldiers’ section and vice-chairman of the military department of the soviet. During the preparation of the October Armed Uprising, Lazimir sided with the Bolsheviks and wrote the draft “Regulations of the Military Revolutionary Committee”; he was also a member of the bureau and first chairman of the Petrograd Military Revolutionary Committee. In November 1917 he became a member of the collegium of the People’s Commissariat of Internal Affairs and the collegium of the People’s Commissariat on Military Affairs. From 1918 to 1920, Lazimir was a member of the Revolutionary Military Council of the Southern Front, directed the supply of the Soviet troops in the Ukraine, and organized public health affairs in areas liberated from Denikin’s troops. Lazimir died of typhus and was buried in Kremenchug.
