Bondarenko, Pavel Ivanovich

 

Born Dec. 22, 1917, in Dnepropetrovsk. Soviet sculptor. People’s Artist of the USSR (1978); corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1975). Member of the CPSU since 1942.

Bondarenko graduated from the I. E. Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture in Leningrad in 1949. He studied under M. G. Manizer and V. V. Lishev. Bondarenko collaborated with other sculptors on the monument to V. I. Lenin in Sevastopol’ (bronze and granite, 1957) and a cycle of reliefs depicting scenes from revolutionary history (plaster, 1949; State Prize of the USSR, 1950). Bondarenko also took part in the building of the Lenin Memorial (1967–70) in Ul’ianovsk.
