Pavel Volobuev

Volobuev, Pavel Vasil’evich

 

Born Jan. 1, 1923, in the village of Evgenovka, in present-day Taranovskoe Raion, Kustanai Oblast, Kazakh SSR. Soviet historian; corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN SSSR; 1970). Member of the CPSU since 1944.

Volobuev graduated from Moscow University’s history department in 1950. He became senior research associate at the Institute of History of AN SSSR in 1955 and head of its section for the publication of the multi volume History of the USSR in 1966. In 1969 he became the director of the Institute of the History of the USSR of the AN SSSR. Volobuev’s major works concern the economic, political, and social bases of the history of the Great October Socialist Revolution and its historiography.
