Pavlov, Sergei Pavlovich
Born Jan. 19, 1929, in Rzhev. Soviet party and state official. Member of the CPSU since 1954.
The son of an office worker, Pavlov graduated from the tech-nicum of mechanization and electrification of agriculture in Rzhev and from the State Central Institute for Physical Education in Moscow. He became a Komsomol official in 1952 and served as secretary, second secretary, and first secretary of the Moscow city committee of the Komsomol between 1955 and 1958. A secretary of the Central Committee (CC) of the Komsomol in 1958 and 1959, he was first secretary from 1959 to 1968. In October 1968, Pavlov was appointed chairman of the Committee on Physical Education and Sports under the Council of Ministers of the USSR.
Pavlov was elected to the CC of the CPSU at the Twenty-second and Twenty-third Party Congresses and to the Central Auditing Commission at the Twenty-fourth and Twenty-fifth Party Congresses. A deputy to the sixth and seventh convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, he has been awarded two orders and various medals.
