Suffolk Horse

a breed of heavy draft horse developed in the 18th century in Suffolk, Great Britain. The horses are massive and rotund and have short legs; their barrel-like form inspired the name “Suffolk Punch.” The height at the shoulder is 160–170 cm, and the weight is 800–900 kg. The Suffolk breed is used for farm work and shows promise for use as food. The breed is raised in England and Ireland, from where it was imported to South America, Australia, and South Africa. In Russia it was used in developing the Vladimir and Soviet heavy draft breeds.
