Ural Region

the outlying section of the East European Plain, adjacent to the western slopes of the Urals and primarily located in the Kama and Pechora river basins. The Pechora Lowland is in the north and reaches elevations of 50–150 m. The uplands to the south include the Bugul’ma-Belebei Elevation and the Upper Kama Upland, which reach elevations of 300–400 m.

Much of the Ural Region is covered with coniferous forests of fir, spruce, and pine that in the south are mixed with broad-leaved forests of linden, oak, and maple; broad-leaved forests sometimes predominate in the south. There is tundra in the far north and steppes in the far south. The steppes are tilled in many places. The Ural Region has large deposits of oil, gas, and coal in the Timan-Pechora Oil-Gas Basin, the Pechora Coal Basin, and the eastern part of the Volga-Ural Oil-Gas Region.
