Urals Automotive Plant

an enterprise of the motor-vehicle industry of the USSR, located in the city of Miass, Cheliabinsk Oblast. The plant was established in 1941, utilizing the evacuated shops originally located at the I. A. Likhachev Moscow Automotive Plant. The first two-axle vehicle built at the plant, ZIS 5-V, left the assembly line July 8, 1944. The subassemblies used in this model were subsequently improved, and new models of trucks were designed and manufactured, for example, ZIS-5, ZIS-21 A, UralZIS-352, and UralZIS-355M. In 1965, after a major reconstruction, the manufacturing process was changed to produce three-axle all-terrain vehicles of the Ural line.

In 1975 the plant was mass-producing the truck Ural-375D, the tractor truck Ural-375S, the truck Ural-375K, which was designed to operate in the climate of the Far North, and the truck Ural-375Iu, which was designed to operate under tropical conditions. During the years 1966–74, the gross output of the plant was increased by 2.4 times.

The plant was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor in 1966.
