pay banding system

pay banding system

(1) A system of pay for junior doctors in training in the UK, which is based on the number of hours worked during a week. The system replaces the Additional Duty Hours pay system, reflects compliance with the New Deal for Junior Doctors, where Band 3 is non compliant. The bands for New Deal compliant posts reflect Actual Hours of Work up to 40 hours per week (Band F), up to 48 hours per week (Band 1), or up to 56 per week (Band 2); and the bands are subdivided by criteria based on type of working pattern, intensity of work and proportion of unsocial hours (out of hours) work.

(2) A system for pay of non-doctors, non-dentists and some senior managers under the NHS Agenda for Change 2004, which covers the people who work for the NHS in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The Agenda for Change pay bands replace the Whitley Council grades for civil servants which were adopted in 1948.
