Location:About 5.5 miles northeast of Raton via NM 72 east and 526 north.
Facilities:40 developed campsites (12 with electric hookups), restrooms (é),showers, picnic areas (é), group shelter, hiking trails, interpretive trail, boat ramp, courtesydock, visitor center, exhibits.
Activities:Camping, boating (no gas motors), canoeing and kayaking, fishing, hiking, rock climbing, cross-country skiing, wildlife viewing.
Special Features:Located on the New Mexico-Colorado border, this heavily wooded,mountainous park was formerly the site of a coal-mining camp. Aninterpretive trail winds through the camp, and the visitor centerprovides information about the coal camp and the area's history. Anextended cliff of basaltic rock columns, often referred to as"caprock," is the dominant geologic feature at the park, and rockclimbing is permitted on the caprock.
