[′smōk ‚pät] (ordnance) A cylindrical metal munition designed to produce smoke for screening or signaling purposes, either by combustion of a smoke-producing mixture, or by combustion of a fuel mixture to vaporize a smoke-producing oil; it may be with or without an igniting device and a filling, and it is not intended for throwing or for firing from weapons.

Smoke Pot

 

a smoke-generating device used for military purposes to create smoke screens and in agriculture to fumigate for protection from frosts and pests. It consists of a metallic container, generally cylindrical in shape, equipped with a smoke mixture. Smoke pots may be small (up to 3 kg), medium (up to 7.5 kg), or large (up to 40-50 kg). Intensive smoke may be generated from 5 to 20 min.

a device for releasing smoke. A smoke pot consists of a cylindrical metal container with openings in its upper end. An igniter is inserted in the center hole, and the smoke that forms when the mixture in the pot burns escapes through the remaining holes.
