Tiaglye Krestiane

in Russia from the 15th to 18th centuries, peasants obliged to pay state taxes and fulfill state obligations. Beginning in the second half of the 17th century, tiaglyekrest’iane included privately owned peasants, chernososhnyekrest’iane (taxpaying state peasants), and bobyli (poor, feudally dependent peasants). Beginning in the first half of the 18th century, they also included kholopy (enslaved serfs). When the poll tax was introduced, tiaglye krest’iane were referred to as “assessed population” or “taxed population.”
