septal nucleus

septal nucleus

The dorsal, ventral, medial, or caudal septal nucleus. The septal area is the subcallosal area plus the paraterminal gyrus, i.e., the anterior and medial region of the cerebral hemispheres above the lamina terminalis and below (and including) the septum pellucidum. The septal nuclei receive inputs from the hippocampus (via the fornix) and the hypothalamus; the septal nuclei project to the hypothalamus, the habenula, the thalamus, and via the medial forebrain bundle, to the midbrain tegmentum.
