Smolian

a city in southern Bulgaria, located in the Rho-dope Mountains, at an elevation of approximately 1000 m. Administrative center of Smolian District. Population, 30,000 (1975). Smolian has enterprises for the production of wood products, tobacco products, and electrical equipment (cables). The city is a tourist site. [23–1863–]
