Venediktov, Anatolii Vasil’evich

 

Born June 18 (30), 1887, in the village of Zirgan, in present-day Bashkir ASSR; died Aug. 9, 1959, in Leningrad. Soviet scholar, jurist, and academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1958).

Venediktov graduated from the economics division of the St. Petersburg Polytechnical Institute in 1910 and from the department of law of St. Petersburg University in 1912. He taught at the University of Yaroslavl in 1918 and 1919 and at the Petrograd Polytechnical Institute from 1919 to 1930. From 1930 to 1944 he was professor first at the Leningrad Institute of Mechanical Engineering and then at the Institute of Planning. He was appointed professor at Leningrad State University in 1944. His main works deal with legal and economic questions and include The Merging of Joint-Stock Companies (1914), The Legal Nature of State Enterprises (1928), Contractual Procedure in Industry (1935), State Socialist Property (1948), Civil-Law Protection of Socialist Property in the USSR (1954), and The Organization of State Industry in the USSR (2 vols., 1957-61). He was awarded the State Prize of the USSR (1949) and the Order of Lenin.
