Suggs, Louise
(Mae Louise Suggs), 1923–2015, American golfer, b. Atlanta, Ga. A successful amateur golfer as a teenager, she turned professional in 1948 after winning several amateur and other championships, including the U.S. Women's (1947) and British Ladies (1948) amateur championships. One of the founding members of the Ladies Professional Golf Association in 1950, she served as LPGA president from 1955 to 1957. During her professional career she won 58 tournaments, 50 of which were LPGA events. She also won 11 major championships and became the first woman to achieve a career grand slam.Bibliography
