Presidium of the Central Committee of the CPSU

 

an administrative party organ elected by the plenum of the Central Committee of the CPSU to direct the work of the Central Committee between plenary sessions. The Presidium was first organized by the plenary session of the Central Committee of the CPSU on Oct. 16, 1952, in accordance with the Rules of the CPSU approved by the Nineteenth Party Congress (1952), to replace the Politburo of the Central Committee of the ACP (B). In accordance with a resolution of the Twenty-third Party Congress, the Politburo of the Central Committee of the CPSU was reinstated on Apr. 8, 1966.
