Human rightsA popular term referring to a pseudoscientific experiments on twins carried out by Dr Josef Mengele at the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. An estimated 1500 pairs of twins—the so-called Mengele twins—arrived at the camp; 100 pairs—the Children of Auschwitz Nazi Deadly Lab Experiments Survivors (CANDLES)—survived.

A method of investigating the relative degree of phenotypic variance attributable to either genetic factors, or to transmissible and nontransmissible environmental factors. In twin research, dissimilarities between monozygotic twins are compared with the behavioural variations in non-twin siblings or dizygotic twins.
