septin 2

septin 2

A protein encoded on chromosome 2q37 by SEPT2, which is a member of the septin family of GTPases. It is a filament-forming cytoskeletal GTPase required for normal organisation of the actin cytoskeleton. Because it maintains polyglutamylated microtubules, it facilitates efficient vesicle transport; it is required for progression through mitosis and may be required for chromosome segregation and spindle elongation during anaphase. It may be responsible for internalisation of the intracellular pathogens Listeria monocytogenes and Shigella flexneri.
