Suit on a promissory note

For approximately 6 months I rented a 3-bedroom apartment with a friend and his daughter. The lease was in both our names. My friend signed a promissory note stating that he would pay the heating and lighting utilities in lieu of paying additional rent since he and his daughter occupied 2/3rds of the apartment. This promissory note was to be in effect for the duration of the lease. The provisory note stated that the only reason the utilities were not in his name, was because he had an ongoing dispute with the utility companies. Therefore the utilities are in my name. My question is: Even though the utility bills are in my name, can I hold him responsible for the payment since I have the promissory note signed by him?

Answer

Yes--you can sue on the note alone--
