Born Apr. 23, 1922, in Brno. Czech motion-picture director.
In 1946, Sequens graduated from the drama division of the conservatory in Brno. From 1946 to 1947 he studied at the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow, and then the Institute of Cinematography in Paris. For a time he worked as a theatrical director. In 1949 he made his debut in films as a screenwriter, and in 1951 he directed his first film. He directed one of the best Czech adventure films. The Mystery of the Old Mine (1955), and a number of other films, including The Undefeated (1956), Escape From the Shadow (1958; Gold Medal at the First International Film Festival in Moscow, 1959), The Attempt (1964; Gold Medal at the Fourth International Film Festival in Moscow, 1965), and Chronicle of a Hot Summer (1973).
