Sukhe-Bator
a city in the Mongolian People’s Republic. Situated on the Orkhon River, close to the river’s confluence with the Selenga River, at the border of the USSR. Administrative center of the aimak of Selenga. River landing. Population, 8,300 (1963). Sukhe-Bator is a commercial and transportation center on the Moscow-Ulan Bator Railroad. Industrial enterprises include a match factory, a combine for the manufacture of housing units, and a flour mill. Handicrafts are also produced. Sukhe-Bator has a veterinary and zootechnical station and a veterinary school. Founded in 1940, the city was named in honor of the Mongolian political and state figure D. Sukhe-Bator.
