[prē′ten·shən·iŋ] (engineering) Process of precasting concrete beams with tensioned wires embedded in them. Also known as Hoyer method of prestressing.

Pretensioning

Prestressed concrete in which the tendons are tensioned before the concrete has hardened, and generally before it is cast; the concrete is cast around the wires which are flame-cut after the concrete has hardened.
