Volkov, Dmitrii Vasil’evich

 

Born 1718 in the village of Voskresenkoe, in present-day Ruza Raion, Moscow Oblast; died 1785 in the village of Krest, Vitebsk Province. Russian statesman.

Volkov was the closest aid of Chancellor A. P. BestuzhevRiumin. As the secretary of Peter III, he had a great influence on domestic and foreign policy. During the reign of Catherine II, Volkov’s posts included president of the Department of Manufacturing and governor-general of Orenburg. Volkov advocated the development of trade and industry and the expansion of Russian foreign trade.
