PC X server

PC X server

A Windows-based PC that renders graphics from applications that generate output in the X Window protocol. In X Window, the terminology is opposite to the norm: the machine that renders to the display screen is the X Window server, and the applications running on a network server are X Window clients. You gotta love this industry! See X Window.

PC X Server Environment
This is the typical X Window environment, which uses Windows PCs to render images from remote machines.

The Exceed onDemand (EoD) Variation
Hummingbird's Exceed onDemand (EoD) is a PC X server variation that uses a third-tier server to improve performance. All X Window messages between applications and the X server go to the EoD server instead. The EoD server compresses the data and uses its own Thin X protocol for transfer between the X server in the PC.
