Ayman Sholpan
Ayman Sholpan
Kazakh lyrical epic folk poem of the first half of the 19th century. One of the outstanding works of the Kazakh epos on a level with Kozy-Korpesh i Baianslu and Kyz-Zhibek. In the image of the Kazakh girl Ayman, the creative work of the people poeticized the exalted notions of honor, dignity, generosity, resourcefulness, and courage. In the poem, which upholds the rights of Kazakh women, conceited bais (rich landowners) and batyrs (feudal knights) are ridiculed. A musical drama (libretto by M. O. Auezov, music by E. G. Brusilovskii) was composed on the theme of Ayman Sholpan.
