Antonov, Sergei Fedorovich

Born Sept. 12 (25), 1911, in the village of Pokrovskoe, in what is now Iarkovo Raion, Tiumen’ Oblast. Soviet state and party figure. Member of the CPSU since 1937.

The son of a worker, Antonov graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Dairy Industry Engineering in 1937 and from the Higher Party School Under the Central Committee of the ACP(B) in 1941. From 1937 to 1939, Antonov was deputy chief engineer and a department head of the Central Board of the Dairy Industry of the People’s Commissariat of the Food Industry of the USSR. He served in the Soviet Army from 1941 to 1945. He was deputy minister of the meat and dairy industry of the USSR from 1946 to 1949 and minister of the meat and dairy products industry of the USSR from 1954 to 1957.

In 1957 and 1958, Antonov served as deputy chairman of the Moscow city council of the national economy. From 1958 to 1960 he was a minister-counselor at the embassy of the USSR in the People’s Republic of China; he was ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the USSR to Afghanistan from 1960 to 1965. He was appointed minister of the meat and dairy industry of the USSR in 1965.

Antonov was a member of the Central Auditing Commission of the CPSU from 1966 to 1976. He was elected a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU in 1976. He was a deputy to the seventh through ninth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.

Antonov has been awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, two other orders, and various medals.
