Sergei Godunov

Godunov, Sergei Konstantinovich

 

Born July 17, 1929, in Moscow. Soviet mathematician. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1976).

Godunov graduated from Moscow State University in 1951. In 1969 he joined the staff of the Computer Center of the Siberian Division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. His principal works deal with numerical methods of solving equations of mathematical physics (the theory of difference schemes) and the qualitative investigation of quasi-linear hyperbolic equations.

Godunov received the Lenin Prize in 1959 and has been awarded three orders and various medals.
