Sergei Ivanovich Arkhangelskii
Arkhangel’skii, Sergei Ivanovich
Born Jan. 10 (22), 1882, in the city of Semenov, Nizhny Novgorod Province; died Oct. 7, 1958, in the city of Gorky. Soviet historian. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1946).
Arkhangel’skii graduated from Moscow University in 1906. From 1917 he taught at the Nizhny Novgorod Pedagogical Institute, from 1934 he was a professor at the Gorky Pedagogical Institute, and from 1946 he was a professor at the University of Gorky. His major works are The Agrarian Legislation of the English Revolution (parts 1–2, 1935–40) and The Peasant Movement in England in the 1640’s and 1650’s (1960). Arkhangel’skii is one of the authors of the collective work The English Bourgeois Revolution of the 17th Century (vols. 1–2, 1954).
