Rubber Stock

Rubber Stock

a mixture made from raw rubber that contains the ingredients necessary for converting raw rubber into vulcanized rubber.

The most important ingredients of rubber stock are vulcanizing agents and fillers. Plasticizers, stabilizers, cure retarders, breakdown accelerators, and pigments are also introduced into rubber stock. The ingredients may be introduced into solid raw rubber or into latex, which is an aqueous dispersion of raw rubber.

The selection of the type and content of the ingredients for rubber stock is determined by the chemical nature of the raw rubber, by the technological requirements of the rubber stock, the conditions under which the items produced are to be used, and by economic considerations.
